Our key technology: Automatic Attack Detection

If you use Epowar with an Apple or Android smartwatch, you can make use of our Automatic Attack Detection algorithm – one of Epowar’s unique key features. Automatic Attack Detection is based on our very own AI-technology developed by the Epowar co-founders. The algortihm has been tested for years and is now an extremely accurate, patented-pending piece of tech. This means: You will not find AI-powered Attack Detection in any other personal safety app. But what exactly does Automatic Attack Detection mean?

How does it work?

Epowar's Automatic Attack Detection relies on an algorithm that was built and trained by the Epowar co-founders.

About the Algorithm:

AI models

But how exactly does Epowar monitor the health data from your smartwatch to detect an attack? Epowar draws on a unique Attack Detection algorithm that has been trained to determine if your heart rate and motion indicate an attack. The AI-models have been tested with a wide range of users and combine mental and physical data, meaning it can differentiate between exercise and attack situations. The algorithm also deploys machine learning which means that the AI becomes more accurate every time Epowar is used.

Abnormalities and false alarm prevention

Worried because your heart rate is normally high or irregular? Don’t be! When you start using the Automatic Attack Detection feature, the algorithm establishes a baseline of what is normal for you. Since the algorithm has been trained to spot abnormalities based on a combination of mental AND physical health data, it can spot abnormalities unique to your body. But, even if the algorithm does get it wrong (perhaps if you break into a spontaneous, wild dance or wrestle with your umbrella)–there is no need to worry about scaring your friends with false alarms: once the AI detects an attack, your smartwatch will vibrate and you can swipe “I’m OK” on your watch or phone before anyone is alerted.

After an attack is detected

After an attack is detected, or whenever you press the SOS button, your friends will be alerted loudly, even if their phone is on silent or in do not disturb mode! They can call you straight from the app and navigate to your live location. In an emergency, the Epowar app immediately records evidence that is safely stored in an Evidence Pack in the cloud. Each Evidence Pack includes microphone recordings, health and vital sign data and detailed location data.

Alerting friends

If an attack is detected, your friends will be alerted loudly, even if their phone is on silent or do not disturb! They can call you straight from the app and navigate to your live location. In an emergency, Epowar also records, stores and compiles an evidence pack. Each pack includes microphone recordings, vital signs, and location data. Your anonymised data is safely stored in our cloud and accessible even if your phone is lost or destroyed.

Evidence recording

Once you are in SOS mode, the Epowar app will start recording evidence such as audio data, vital signs and detailed location data and store it safely in the cloud. When this Journey ends, you will automatically be emailed the download link to the cloud with all your files. The friends who followed you on this Journey will be able to request to see the evidence in the app.

Don't have a smartwatch? Not a problem!

We have also re-imagined the SOS button! Alert your friends when you feel unsafe on a Journey with our SOS button. The SOS button is even accessible from your lock screen, so you don't need to open the app to press it. With the SOS button, you can always take safe Journeys, even if your smartwatch is not charged, or you forget to wear it.
