In a crowded market of safety apps and personal protection products,
Epowar stands out—not just for its innovative technology, but for its unique approach to empowering women while they walk and run in public spaces. As the UK’s only AI-powered personal safety app Epowar isn’t just another app on your phone. It’s a statement of strength, safety, and a deeper understanding of the specific needs women have when it comes to personal security.

What Makes Epowar Different from Other Safety Apps?

Other brands like Walk Safe, Beacon, Hollysafe or more traditional gadgets like manual rape alarms, pepper sprays, and women safety keychains are advertising their products and services as unique safety solutions. But at closer inspection, Epowar is the only free service that does not only speak directly to women and girls with their brand, but tailor their services and technologies to women’s needs. Epowar is highly specialised in the way their app functions. They have built their own technology including AI-powered attack detection and a lockscreen SOS widget. The app was also able to secure special permissions that allow anyone tracking a friend’s safety with the app to receive device-specific Critical Alerts that sound loudly on their phones, even if their phone is muted.

Epowar for everyone

Does this mean Epowar is only for women? No! The co-founders of the app clearly state that their app is for everyone who feels vulnerable or simply wants to have the option of using a safety app on their phone. In one social media video  they address their male users and suggest that their pink colour palette and female-forward branding does not mean men are excluded from using Epowar, but that it was important to make smart tech for women that make female users feel at home with the service.

The Meaning Behind the Brand Name

Another interesting fact about Epowar is their name. You would think that this is a misspelling of Empower or even alluding to E-Power. Users have joked on their social media that they always mispronounced the brand name ‘Epo war’ not realising the secret behind the name: Epowar is an acronym for Empowered on walks and runs. The name has been chosen deliberately to reflect their commitment to keeping users safe during everyday activities in public.

But of course, Epowar is also meant to allude to empower, power, and empowerment in every sense, reminding women that they have the strength and support to take control over their safety. With Epowar, you’re not just moving – you’re moving with power.

In an era where personal safety is a growing concern, Epowar is pioneering a smarter, more empathetic approach to women’s security, blending AI innovation with a deep commitment to empowerment.
